Mary Zittel, PA-C, grew up the oldest of two children in a small town outside of Buffalo, NY. Raised by parents who grew up on farms, she was fortunate to have an upbringing that included growing their own food, cooking from scratch, and working hard outside on the land. The health benefits she saw as a result of this lifestyle planted a seed that would be cultivated years later. Her love of medicine was also nurtured by running around her mother’s medical practice in their small town. Mary spent every spare moment at the family business, eventually following in her mother's footsteps to become a medical provider. In addition to working in our practice, Mary is blessed to now care for patients alongside her mother in their private, primary care office in their hometown. Their practice prides itself on offering personalized care, often spanning multiple generations in the same family. A true ‘family practice.’
Always eager to learn, she attended a guest lecture at her high school during her freshman year by Dr. T. Colin Campbell. Copies of The China Study were handed out, and Mary never looked back. From that day, she fell in love with an unprocessed, whole foods, plant-based way of living. Telling anyone she could about this way of eating, Mary graduated from Canisius College with her bachelor’s in biology and then graduated top of her class from Yale School of Medicine with her Master of Physician Assistant Studies. While at Yale, she helped develop the lifestyle medicine course, which included her thesis on the power of an exclusively whole foods, plant-based diet. Interviewing top physicians in the field, she gained an appreciation for the life transformations shared in the patient cases discussed by these doctors.
Her passion for healing through lifestyle changes, supplements, and diet led Mary to work at True North Health Center in California, where she witnessed the power of water-only fasting, as well as what a salt-, oil-, and sugar-free plant-foods diet can do for the diseases that plague so many people.
Seeking to help patients find healing by treating the cause and not the symptom, Mary utilizes a combination of lifestyle, diet, and supplements—along with medication when necessary. Getting your body back in balance requires treatment that is personalized and precise—tailored to your unique needs.

Her personalized lifestyle medicine approach to find the root cause of disease and dysfunction will help you restore optimal health and vitality. Through the use of integrative wellness techniques, foundational nutritional support and precision nutrition, your body's innate preference to be healthy and balanced will be tapped into so you can thrive.
Mary resides outside of East Aurora with her parents and two dogs, Lottie and Maggie, who enjoy roaming the acreage and helping ‘mom’ in her vegetable garden. In her spare time, Mary spends her days gardening, tending her orchard, sewing, knitting, reading, traveling, and being physically active. She especially enjoys her morning walk outside, where she can be at one with nature.
